Josh Niblett & Paul DeMarcoJosh Niblett - Hoover High School Head Football Coach Josh Niblett, left, shown with Alabama State Representative Paul DeMarco, was the speaker at the March 21 Chamber luncheon at Hoover Country Club. He had led his football team to the Class 6A Alabama State Football Championship in 2012, for his second championship season in six years since coming to Hoover High School. Although many may have expected him to talk about football, the sport was barely mentioned in his twenty minute talk. He spoke more about building character and principles into the young men he works with on the team, and the importance of impacting their lives. His goal is to build better fathers and husbands in the future. As he said, "anybody can be a daddy!"

Agriculture Commissioner John McMillan to Speak

Medical Center West will sponsor the June 20 Luncheon, and has invited Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries John McMillan to speak. John McMillan grew up in the community of Stockton in Baldwin County. After attending Stockton School and Baldwin County High School, McMillan attended Rhodes College where he earned a BA in economics. His interest in agriculture began at a young age while working on his uncle's farm and in his father's sawmill. After college, he continued to work at the family sawmill for nearly 20 years. Over the years, his life's work continued to focus on agri-business, forest products, wildlife protection, natural resource management and the protection of private property rights.

Chamber Golf Tournament Winners

The overall winners of the 17th Annual Chamber Golf Tournament came from the Cook's Pest Control Team of (l-r) Roy Kent, Charlie Angel, Mark Baron, & Robby Cole, pictured with Golf Committee Chairman Joe DiBenedetto. They had a team score of 55. Charlie Angel also had closest-to-the-pin on Par 3 Hole Number 3, hitting his tee shot within two feet of the pin. The Golf Tournament Raffle raised approximately $2,500.00 this year, due in large part to the great prizes offered by the biggest sponsors. The Grand Prize was donated by The Wynfrey Hotel, with a 2-Night Stay and a $150.00 Gift Card to Shula's Steakhouse, donated by General Manager Andy Peters. Andy is on both the Chamber Board of Directors and Board of Trustees as a member of the Presidents Circle.

Gary Wright of Cadence Bank on President's Circle

Gary Wright of Cadence Bank decided to move up to the Presidents Circle on the Board of Trustees, the highest level of membership of the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce when this level was created some five years ago. This is a higher membership recognition level that includes such benefits as:

  • a display ad on the bottom of the 3-page newspaper ad in both The Shelby County Reporter and The Birmingham News in February of each year ($800.00 Value)
  • Platinum Sponsorship recognition in the Miss Hoover Pageant ($1,000.00 Value)
  • Platinum Presidents Circle sponsorship with 4 players in the Chamber Golf Tournament, with Hole Sponsorship designating Presidents Circle sponsorship ($1,250.00 Value)
  • A display ad on the Chamber website ($300.00 Value)
  • Separate Photo Listing with past Chamber Presidents on the website and Hoover Magazine as Presidents Circle Members on the Board of Trustees (Priceless!)
  • Special Name tag with Presidents Circle Designation
  • VIP seating for Presidents Circle Members at the annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast
  • Special Seating at Chamber Luncheons included all year. ($185.00 Value)
  • All this is in addition to the regular Board of Trustee Dues level of only $1,000.00 per year.

This level makes Cadence Bank one of the biggest sponsors of the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce, and helps us to keep our dues level among the lowest in the region for the small business owner.
