Three Hoover Firefighters were selected as finalists for the Firefighter of the Year Award and presented at the February Chamber Luncheon. Anthony Warren was recognized as the 2009 Detention Officer of the Year at the February 18 Chamber Luncheon for his outstanding work in dealing with difficult situations in the Hoover City Jail. Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis cited him for several situations in which he showed above-and-beyond maturity and dedication in the performance of his duties.

March Luncheon

AmSher's David Sher to Speak on Social Networking

Hoover's own Birmingham Barons Baseball Club is our sponsor for the March 18 Luncheon, and has David Sher as our speaker. David will speak about the impact that social media is having on today's business environment. He has been selected by the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce as Small Business Person of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year. He is also a past Chairman of the Birmingham Chamber. AmSher is an Inc 500 company and was selected by the Birmingham Business Journal as Best in Business for companies with 100 to 400 employees.

Alabama House of Representatives honors Liz Cochran

On Thursday, January 14, the Alabama House of Representatives honored Liz Cochran (Miss Alabama) as she prepares to depart for Las Vegas. This included the Speaker of the House issuing a resolution recognizing some accomplishments during her year. Liz was Miss Hoover 2009 before being named Miss Alabama. She leaves on Thursday, January 21, to compete with 52 other contestants for the title of Miss America.
